Dichroscopes
"The D2 is the best dichroscope in the world!" Bill Larson, Pala International

D2 Dichroscope with optional holder and neckstrap

Unlike old-fashioned calcite dichroscopes, which only provide fuzzy colors, Professional Gem Tools dichroscopes contain high quality optics that allow the user to actually examine the stone.

Professional Gem Tool's patent pending design eliminates secondary internal reflections. This provides a clear and sharp image when viewing the stone.

Both the D1 and D2 dichroscopes feature 6.35X optical magnification, allowing the user to view into a stone to see flaws as well as to determine pleochroism. With this feature, gemcutters can easily orient the stone for best color rendition. Both dichroscopes come with a leather storage pouch.

Model D2 Dichroscope: $159.95
The D2 dichroscope is made with a stainless steel casing. It has an effective lens aperture of 11.9mm, which produces a bright image. The D2 also features the finest boron float glass in the filter component providing distortion-free viewing.

Experienced users can even identify the growth lines in verneuil corundum with the D2! Overall dimensions are 39.6mm long x 14.8mm diameter. An adjustable neckstrap with holder is available for the D2 dichroscope (pictured at right) for $12.95.

Model D1 Dichroscope: $79.00
The D1 dichroscope is made out of durable Delrin and has a smaller 9.06mm aperture. The D1 is an affordable and lightweight tool that will satisfy the needs of both the professional and novice. Overall dimensions are 34.3mm long x 12.6mm diameter. Neckstrap is not available for the D1.

Cobbing stones is easy using this professional cobbing kit...

Place a fracture or weak point of a stone against the top edge of the iron bar.
Tap the top side of the stone lightly with our cobbing hammer.
When the stone splits along the weak point, the bad portion will cleave off evenly and produce a clean stone.
You can even cob a really large stone down a fracture line to create two flawless stones. The stones on the right came from a 3-1/2 inch by 2-1/2 inch stone!
